The Young Africans for Peace and Development Association (YAPADA) operates in East Africa, focusing on communities most in need of peacebuilding, development, and humanitarian support. With a growing presence in the region, YAPADA addresses challenges related to conflict, poverty, and environmental vulnerability.
Current Areas of Operation
1. Somalia
As YAPADA’s founding country, Somalia is at the heart of our efforts. We work in various regions to:
- Promote peace and reconciliation, particularly in conflict-affected areas like Qoryooley town in the Lower Shabelle region.
- Support youth and women through empowerment and capacity-building initiatives.
- Enhance food security and livelihoods by training farmers and providing essential resources.
- Deliver emergency assistance during natural disasters, such as droughts and floods.
2. Kenya (In Progress)
We are in the process of expanding our programs to Kenya, where we plan to:
- Foster inter-community harmony and prevent conflict.
- Support rural and urban communities with climate adaptation projects.
- Address economic challenges through skills training and microfinance opportunities.
3. Ethiopia (In Progress)
Our planned expansion into Ethiopia will focus on:
- Strengthening food security and climate resilience in vulnerable regions.
- Promoting peace and social cohesion among diverse communities.
- Implementing education and health initiatives to uplift marginalized populations.
Why We Work in These Areas
The regions we serve face numerous challenges, including:
- Conflict and Instability: Many areas are plagued by inter-clan disputes and prolonged violence.
- Climate Vulnerabilities: Droughts, floods, and other climate impacts threaten livelihoods and food security.
- Economic Challenges: High unemployment rates and limited access to resources hinder development.
- Health and Education Gaps: Many communities lack access to basic healthcare and quality education.
